Undergraduate research is a valuable experience that complements formal coursework, especially for those students that are interested in professional or graduate school or a career in research.
Undergraduate research assistants are welcome in all of our laboratories. Sometimes there are paid lab technician positions or undergraduate fellowships may be available to support undergraduate research, but, often, undergraduate students begin as volunteer researchers. A commitment of 8-10 hours per week is generally expected and often students remain in a lab for several semesters. Many undergraduate researchers contribute significantly to current research and end up as co-authors on scientific publications.
Guidelines for how to find an undergraduate research position can be found here.
